A real gem is a genuine Persian carpet. Due to the effects of mass manufacturing on the carpet business, handmade carpets from Iran are becoming more and more difficult to find, and skilled knotters are getting harder to find throughout the Middle East. Persian carpets are always of higher quality than carpets that are machine knotted. Iran, which up until 1934 was formally known as Persia, is where Persian carpets are made. Despite the altered country name, the term for the carpets stayed the same because to the centuries-old tradition. No region that produces carpets can boast a craft legacy as old as Iran's. The carpets are distinguished by their region and knotting density. Well-known provenances for very fine Persian rugs include Nain, Isfahan, and Tabriz.
